Sclerotherapy is performed as a simple office procedure. Multiple injections of a mild sclerosing solution are made directly into the veins with a fine needle. The solution irritates the walls of the veins causing them to stick together, collapse, and eventually be absorbed by the body. After the injections, compression hose are worn continuously for the first 24 hours, then daily for 2 weeks. The procedure is practically painless and requires about 30 minutes to complete.
