Ambulatory phlebectomy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure that removes large, surface varicose veins. At the Vein Clinic at PWC this procedure is performed on an outpatient basis and often covered by medical insurance. We may combine ambulatory phlebectomy at our Portland clinic with other vein treatments to give our patients the most complete results.

For all of your vein treatment needs, choose the Vein Clinic at PWC. Ask a question, book online, or call our office in Portland at (503) 771-1883. We often serve women and men from Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Northern California and Alaska.

What to Expect

The area to be treated is injected with a local anesthetic. Your physician then makes micro-incisions or needle punctures in the skin as small as 1mm next to the varicose vein. A tiny phlebectomy hook is used to extract the diseased veins. Generally, no stitches are required. The area is covered with a compression bandage for 24 hours followed by medical-grade compression hose for another week.

We often use ambulatory phlebectomy after Radiofrequency Ablation for varicose veins to remove any large surface veins left behind by the procedures. The results are beautiful. There is no scarring, minimal discomfort and no downtime.
