Chin augmentation is designed to help patients gain better balance and proportion to the face. The surgery is sometimes combined with rhinoplasty (nose surgery) when the nose is very prominent on the face. It can also be combined with liposuction of the neck in certain individuals who have both a weak chin and a shortened or thickened neck. Chin implants can be placed under mild sedation and local anesthesia in approximately one hour. The recovery is relatively easy with some mild to moderate swelling that resolves during the first week.
